Great news! We have our first Workshop for adults who would like to start Ballet but need some basic knowledge to feel comfortable before joining the weekly classes. It will happen on February 11th, Saturday, at 2pm.

Welcome to 2012! A lot of new classes will be starting this year. We have all our favorite Ballet for Adults classes, plus:
SUMMER COURSE: Intermediate level daily classes at 11am, from 17/01;
ART OF POINTE COURSE: Beggining pointe, six weeks course from 25/02 – there are 3 classes to choose from;
INTRODUCTION TO BALLET: a Sunday workshop for the absolute begginier, once a month:
ART OF TURNS: seven different workshops, from beggining turns for the begginer dancer to turning combinations for the experienced dancer;
ART OF JUMPS: four workshops focusing in how to improve your jumps, from begginer to advanced levels;
ROCK BALLET: bored with classical music? Try this one: we do all our ballet steps to the greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll songs!
So what are you waiting for?
We are at City Dance 260 Queen St, Auckland from Tuesday to Sunday, and at the North Shore Musical Theatre 5 Recreation Drive, Birkenhead – North Shore Auckland.

Art of Turns – Dancing with Pirouette En Dehors: a lovely hour and half class turning pirouette with all sorts of steps, from slow dances to the fast finale! Sunday 18/09 at 12:30

This is awesome! Throughout May, on Sundays we have:
01/05 – Rock Ballet (for ballet beginners level 2 onwards) at 11am – come dance Ballet with the golden Rock songs of all times.
01/05 – Absolute Beginners – (for adult ballet beginners) at 12:30pm – learn the basics of Ballet so you feel confident to join our weekly classes.
08/05 – Art of Jumps (for ballet beginners level 2 onwards) at 12:30pm – all the skills you need to hop, skip and jump joyfully. First of three workshops.
15/05 – Art of Turns (for ballet beginners level 2 onwards) at 12:30pm – all the information you want to be able to turn with ease and confidence. Pirouettes en Dehors and en Dedans.
All happening at CITY DANCE, 260 Queen St, Auckland.

Always wanted to learn Ballet? Auditioning for a Dance Diploma at UNI and need some Ballet background?
If you are and Adult and an Absolute Beginner this is the course for you:
Basic Ballet starts 18/04/2011. In four weeks, eight classes of one hour each, you will experience Ballet and learn all the basics that will allow you to continue through Ballet Level 2 or have the skills to face your Uni course.
When: Mondays and Thursdays 5:30pm
Where: North Shore Music Theatre, 5 Recreation Drive, Birkenhead
Cost: $100 for eight classes
Starts: 18 April

The Art of Turns Workshops

City Dance is offering a series of workshops about TURNS. They will be held every third Sunday of the month, starting 20/03.
The first workshop includes exercises to help students understand spotting and balancing for all kind of turns, plus pirouettes en dehors from 5th position.
The second will deepen the students knowledge of turns en dehors and en dedans.
The third workshop will encourage the students to use their turns combined with a variety of steps dancing beautiful tracks from Adage to Grand Allegro.

Ballet and Pilates at the Shore!

We are back with the Monday classes at the North Shore Musical Theatre:
Monday 6:30pm – Ballet for Adult Beginners
Monday 7:30 pm – Pilates Open for Adults who had an introductory course at the Community Education centres.
Casual Classes cost only NZ$15.

Ballet Classes without a Barre!

The pleasure of dancing free-hand right from the start of the class: that is what is being offered by Ione Barczak at City Dance for all Beginner Level 1 Classes this week, and all Beginner Level 2 classes from 07/02/2011.
The classes are based on the Warm Up exercises executed by all dancers participating on the musical “Billy Elliot”. Then a series of combinations allow the students to dance at their level and learn new steps.

We are all back on our toes!
Ballet classes are back at City Dance (see website for the latest timetable including other styles of dance).
Also at the North Shore Musical Theatre (5 Recreation Drive, BIrkenhead) Ballet is on Mondays 6:30pm and is followed by a Pilates class on 7:30pm from 7/02/2011.
We have a special workshop with Diana Kirk on 13/02 at City Dance, 12:30 Sunday afternoon: the Technique Workshop on Line and Placement for levels 2 and onwards.
